First We Take Manhattan by Leonard Cohen
They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom
For trying to change the system from within
I’m coming now, I’m coming to reward them
They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom
For trying to change the system from within
I’m coming now, I’m coming to reward them
And I stood arrow straight
Unencumbered by the weight
Of all these hustlers and their schemes
The Way We Were is the title track to the movie by the same name. I have not had the courage yet to re-watch the movie. From memory, it a character study of attempted love with a highly narcissistic man.
Sometimes things hit me in waves. The other day I was working to 80s nostalgia music when Making Love Out of Nothing at All played. It is a narc song. The singer is lovebombing their new love with the sort of endless worthless promises that only disordered personalities use.
There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas
